Terms of Service

Effective date: August 15, 2026

1. Who We Are

Ami is operated by Esoterican Inc., an Ontario corporation ("Esoterican," "we," "us," or "our"), based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. You can reach us at support@astroami.com.

By accessing or using Ami at astroami.com or through our iOS application (together, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

When you create an account, you are asked to confirm that you are 18 or older and that you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. That confirmation is your agreement to both documents.

2. The Service

Ami provides personalized astrology readings, natal chart calculations, astrocartography, synastry analysis, and transit information based on real astronomical data calculated using Swiss Ephemeris software. Readings are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence.

For entertainment and personal reflection only. Ami's readings are offered as a tool for personal reflection and self-understanding. Ami is not a licensed counseling, mental health, financial, legal, or medical service, and nothing in the Service constitutes professional advice of any kind. Everything the Service produces, readings and conversation alike, is AI-generated output, and AI-generated output can be incomplete or wrong. It is not professional advice, must not be treated as a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, or psychological care, and must not be used as the basis for decisions involving health, safety, finances, or legal matters. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact local emergency services or a crisis line; Ami is not built for emergencies.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have done so, we will delete that information promptly.

4. Your Account

Certain features require you to create an account using your email address. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at support@astroami.com if you suspect unauthorized access.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe are being used for abusive, fraudulent, or unlawful purposes.

5. Subscriptions and Payments

The tiers

Ami offers a free experience and paid subscription tiers:

Free: a limited number of free readings, as published in the app. After that, generating new readings requires a paid subscription. You keep what Ami has already given you, including the ability to re-read it and share it.
Paid tiers: monthly subscriptions that unlock ongoing readings and higher usage allowances. The current tiers, their names, prices, features, and allowances are published at astroami.com and in the app, and are shown to you before you complete any purchase. Where a tier is described as unlimited, it means unlimited normal personal use: we may apply reasonable fair-use limits designed only to prevent automated, scripted, or abusive volumes, and ordinary personal use will not encounter them.

How billing works

Paid subscriptions are billed through Apple’s In-App Purchase system on iOS and through Stripe on the web. By subscribing, you agree to the billing terms below in addition to the applicable platform’s own terms.

Subscriptions are billed for the period shown at purchase and auto-renew until you cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period: you won’t be charged again, and you keep access until that period ends.
On iOS, you can cancel anytime through your Apple ID settings. Under Apple’s billing rules, cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next renewal.
On the web, you can cancel anytime through your Ami account. Any cancellation made before your renewal date prevents the next charge and takes effect at the end of the current period.
Prices are shown at the time of purchase. Applicable sales taxes, such as GST/HST or VAT, are shown at checkout.
We don’t refund partial subscription periods except where required by law or by Apple’s or Stripe’s policies.
If we change subscription prices, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ written notice describing the change before it takes effect, and you’ll be able to cancel before the new price applies. Any further rights the law of your place of residence gives you when a contract is amended are preserved.

Introductory and promotional pricing

We may offer introductory pricing to new subscribers, promotional pricing through offer codes, and limited-quantity promotional programs (such as founders pricing during an initial signup window). The terms of any such offer, including its price, its duration, and what happens when it ends, are shown to you before you accept it. Promotional rates apply for the period stated in the offer; no promotional rate is guaranteed for any period beyond what the offer itself states.

Referral rewards

We may offer referral rewards, such as service credits or additional readings, when people you invite join Ami. Referral rewards are discretionary service credits: they have no cash value, cannot be exchanged or refunded, and may be modified or withdrawn prospectively at any time. Rewards obtained through fraud or abuse (for example, inviting accounts you control) may be voided.

Reading Packs and one-time purchases

If you reach your reading allowance, you may purchase a one-time Reading Pack that adds a fixed number of additional readings to your account, at the price shown at purchase. Reading Packs are consumable purchases: they are non-refundable once delivered except where required by law or by Apple’s or Stripe’s policies, they do not auto-renew, and they do not modify your subscription term or auto-renewal settings.

6. Data We Collect and How We Use It

We only collect what we need to make Ami work for you:

Birth data: date, time, and location of birth, used solely to calculate your astrological chart.
Name: used to personalize your reading experience.
Email address: used for account creation, login, and service communications.
Chat messages: your conversations with Ami are stored locally on your device. Content you explicitly choose to share (such as a shared reading link) is stored on our servers to make the share work.

Birth data is sensitive. Date, time, and location of birth, taken together, can identify a person uniquely. We treat birth data accordingly. It is stored encrypted in a database hosted in Central Canada (Montreal), accessible only to your account, and never shared with third parties except those strictly required to operate the Service (described in our Privacy Policy). We retain birth data only for as long as your account remains active. You can delete your birth data at any time by deleting your account or by contacting us at support@astroami.com. Your rights under PIPEDA (Canada), GDPR (European Union), and CCPA (California), including the rights to access, correct, port, and delete your personal information, are honoured regardless of where you live.

We use this information to provide and improve the Service. We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except as necessary to operate the Service (e.g., our AI provider, cloud hosting, and payment processors) or as required by law.

Ami's AI readings are powered by Anthropic's Claude API. Messages you send to Ami may be processed by Anthropic in accordance with Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

7. Research and Improving Ami

We may use anonymized, aggregated chart and interaction data for internal research, including studying how astrological precision relates to reading accuracy, and improving Ami's interpretive engine over time. Before any data enters research, your name, email, and account ID are stripped, and your birth location is approximated to a regional level rather than your exact city or coordinates.

We keep birth time exact. Birth time is the part of a chart that moves fastest, the rising sign and house cusps shift roughly every two hours, so fuzzing it would destroy the accuracy of any research the data could support, which would defeat the point of doing the research at all.

Research data lives in a separate database with no link back to your account. You can opt out at any time by emailing support@astroami.com, and if you do, no further data from your charts or readings will enter research storage from that point on.

8. Intellectual Property

All content in the Service, including the Ami name and brand, interface design, astrological methodology, AI system prompts, and generated readings, is owned by Esoterican Inc. or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written permission, except as the licence below expressly allows.

Your licence to your readings. On every tier, we grant you a personal, non-commercial licence to keep, re-read, and share the readings generated for your account. Sharing a reading with the people in your life is part of what a reading is for; this licence does not permit commercial use or republication of the Service's content at scale.

You retain ownership of the personal information you provide (your birth data, name, etc.). By submitting it, you grant us a limited license to use it solely to provide the Service to you.

9. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any regulations.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the Service's underlying AI methodology, system prompts, or ephemeris data in bulk.
Use automated tools to access the Service in ways that impose unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation.
Transmit any content that is harmful, threatening, harassing, or that infringes any third-party rights.
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its related systems.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that astrological calculations or AI readings will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Astronomical calculations are based on Swiss Ephemeris data and are as accurate as that data allows. AI-generated readings are interpretive and may vary. Neither constitutes factual statements about the future.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Esoterican Inc. and its officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).

What these limits do not cover. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for gross negligence or willful misconduct. Where the law of your place of residence does not permit the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, the exclusions and limits above apply only to the extent permitted by that law.

Your consumer rights are preserved. If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms limits or waives any right or remedy you have under applicable consumer protection law that cannot lawfully be limited or waived, including your non-waivable rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario) and equivalent legislation where you live.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Esoterican Inc. and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your unlawful use of the Service, your infringement of third-party intellectual property rights, or your material breach of these Terms. This obligation does not include any duty to defend us. To the extent the law of your place of residence limits or prohibits indemnities from consumers, this section does not apply to you.

13. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved exclusively in the courts located in Toronto, Ontario, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there. If you are a consumer, you may bring or defend proceedings in the courts of your own province, territory, state, or country where mandatory law gives you that right, and Quebec consumers may bring proceedings in Quebec.

Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at support@astroami.com and give us 30 days to attempt to resolve the dispute informally.

Controlling language. Ami is offered in multiple languages, and these Terms may be made available in translation as a convenience. The English version of these Terms is the legally controlling version. If there is any conflict or inconsistency between the English version and a translation, the English version governs, except where the law of your place of residence requires otherwise for consumers.

Your local rights. Nothing in these Terms limits or waives any right or protection you have under applicable consumer protection or privacy law that cannot lawfully be limited or waived, including under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act and equivalent laws where you live.

14. Third-Party Software Notices

Ami performs its astronomical calculations with the Swiss Ephemeris, used under the Swiss Ephemeris Professional License. The following copyright notice is reproduced as required by that license:

The underlying planetary ephemerides are developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology.

Other libraries and data sources used by Ami include the open-source mapping library Leaflet (BSD-2-Clause), CARTO basemap tiles (used under CARTO's free basemap terms), map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (used under the Open Database Licence), city and place data from GeoNames (used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence), and various other open-source components, each used under its respective licence. 15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. For material changes, including changes to price or to essential terms, we will give you at least 30 days' written notice by email or through an in-app notice, describing the change and, where the law requires, presenting the new clause alongside the former one. If you do not accept a material change, you may refuse it and cancel your subscription without penalty before it takes effect. Your continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance only of non-material changes.

16. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 7 (Research and Improving Ami), 8 (Intellectual Property), 10 (Disclaimer of Warranties), 11 (Limitation of Liability), 12 (Indemnification), and 13 (Governing Law), along with any payment obligations accrued before termination, survive termination.

17. General Terms

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of these Terms remains in full effect.

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and the disclosures presented to you in the app, are the entire agreement between you and Esoterican about the Service. If they conflict, these Terms govern first, then the Privacy Policy, then in-app disclosures, except that the applicable platform's terms (Apple or Stripe) govern billing mechanics.

Assignment. You may not assign these Terms or your account. Esoterican may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, and the successor is bound by them.

Force majeure. Neither party is responsible for delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond its reasonable control, such as natural disasters, war, labour disputes, internet or utility failures, or acts of government. This does not excuse payment obligations for services already delivered.

Notices. We give you notice by email to the address on your account and through in-app notice. You can give us notice at support@astroami.com.

No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision of these Terms, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.

Service changes. Ami evolves: features may change, improve, or be discontinued over time. If we ever discontinue the whole Service, we will honour paid subscription periods or refund the unused portion pro rata.

18. Apple App Store Terms

If you use Ami through the iOS app downloaded from Apple's App Store, the following additional terms apply:

These Terms are an agreement between you and Esoterican only, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"), and Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content.
Your licence to use the iOS app is limited to a non-transferable licence to use it on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the usage rules set out in the App Store Terms of Service.
Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
Esoterican, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, claims under consumer protection or similar law, and any claim that the app infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.
You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a United States government embargo and that you are not on any United States government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance of them, may enforce these Terms against you.
